Gerhard Richter
ID: 5465
Видавництво: Ivory Press

Whenever Gerhard Richter goes to Sils (Switzerland), he always takes photographs, some of which he paints and adds to his Atlas . Others he considers independent works of art, and has included them in projects such as the exhibition "Nietzsche Hau in Sils". In his painted images, a photographed reality is combined with the effects of painting. In these painted photographs, the different levels of reality in the photography interact with others from the painting. The realism (as a photographic representation) and the abstraction (as a painting which is not figurative), show themselves to be redundant when the inherent categories of the created image dissolve into one.

The follow up to Soviet Cities by acclaimed Russian photographer and Instagram sensation Arseniy Kotov. A photography book featuring four areas of the post-Soviet republics seen over four different seasons

The follow up to Soviet Cities by acclaimed Russian photographer and Instagram sensation Arseniy Kotov. A photography book featuring four areas of the post-Soviet republics seen over four different seasonsIn Soviet Seasons Kotov’s photographs reveal unfamiliar aspects of the post-Soviet terrain. From snow-blanketed Siberia in winter, to the mountains of the Caucasus in summer, these images show how a once powerful, utopian landscape has been affected by the weight of nature itself.

This uniquely broad perspective could only be achieved by a photographer such as Kotov. Singularly dedicated to exploring every corner of his country, Kotov often hitch-hikes across vast distances. On these journeys he chronicles not only the architectural achievements of the Soviet empire, but also its overlooked or simply undocumented constructions.

Arseniy Kotov: ‘In this book I want to show how beautiful and diverse are the cities and nature of this vast region at different times of the year. I have travelled widely across Russia and neighbouring countries, where I captured the landscape of post-Soviet cities and witnessed the seasonal changes.’

About the Authors:

Born in Samara in 1988, Arseniy Kotov grew up in an urban landscape consisting of standardised Soviet-era housing blocks and industrial towers. He has been taking photographs of city landscapes since he was a teenager. At the age of 25 he decided to hitch-hike across Russia and then on to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Ukraine. During 2016-20 Arseniy Kotov visited all of the post-soviet republics, where he photographed more than two hundred cities. Damon Murray and Stephen Sorrell have been publishing critically acclaimed books on Soviet culture since 2004 with their Russian Criminal Tattoo Encyclopaedia. More recent titles include Chernobyl; A Stalkers’ Guide, Spomenik Monument Database and Soviet Bus Stops.

Michal Chelbin

Видавництво: Aperture

22 black-and-white and 33 four-color images

In her sympathetic pictures of performers and wrestlers from small towns in Ukraine, Eastern Europe, England, and Israel, Michal Chelbin offers a glimpse into worlds both strange and familiar. The settings, costumes, and even some of the subjects themselves may seem exotic, but her portraits look beyond that to capture a transcendent sense of individual character.

Chelbin’s most frequent subjects are children and adolescents, yet her work encompasses a mix of generations. As Leah Ollman notes, “The atmosphere falls somewhere between public and private. There’s a slight titillation of having personal access to performers who, typically, are experienced only remotely. Most immediate, though, are the visual contrasts between young and old, large and small, innocence and experience.”

The palette is intense, and intensely appealing, with a distinctive use of saturated pinks, blues, and greens. Chelbin’s black-and-white images, which are intermingled throughout the book, have an almost Pictorialist richness. Though her influences are evident - most notably August Sander and Diane Arbus - the compelling photographs in Strangely Familiar, Chelbin’s first monograph, have a unique visual and emotional impact.

Atmospheric photography that follows today’s intrepid adventurers to the most breathtaking places in the world.

The Great Wide Open is a compilation of photographs that capture and celebrate the new desire for outdoor adventure. From Iceland to Mongolia, this book takes you on a visual journey to some of the Earth’s most breathtaking places.

The Great Wide Open is an ode to the outdoors, bound to awaken a thirst for adventure and prompt you to act on it.

As the rhythm of our hectic urban lives continues to speed up, we are increasingly compelled to leave it all behind and escape far into the quiet depths of nature. In great contrast with the claustrophobic metropolitan environments most of us live in, the photographs featured in The Great Wide Open depict wondrous sites that will take you on a visual journey through faraway lands from Canada to Lesotho, as seen by those who have climbed that mountain and surfed that wave.

Through their silent forests, infinite skies, and crystal waters, these photographs capture the feeling of longing behind the growing search for a certain peacefulness that is lacking in our fast-paced lifestyles. Follow this movement by joining a new generation of outsiders who have an unquenchable thirst for adventure, and see what they see through awe-inspiring images of some of the world’s most beautiful places. Read about their explorations as they share the stories behind the photographs — tales ranging from conquering the unconquerable to preparing good coffee huddled under a pitched tent. Beyond some traditional, timeless landscape photographs, The Great Wide Open features views that are highly personal and full of life.

The outdoor enthusiast, designer, and illustrator Jeffrey Bowman co-edited both this book and our previous release The Outsiders. His experiences and point of view shape the selection of stories and images featured here. These compelling stories by a wide range of other hikers, campers, cyclists, mountaineers, surfers, and globetrotters awaken a craving for new adventures and following the call of the wild.

Celebrated as the American Rhine, the majestic Hudson River flows more than three hundred miles from its source high in the Adirondack Mountains to New York Harbor. Lining its banks are the marks of the four hundred years of history that have transpired since Henry Hudson piloted the Half Moon north from New Amsterdam in 1609. Today the river and the surrounding valley are protected as a National Heritage Area by the National Park Service.

This stunning photographic journey explores the Hudson River's historic riverfront towns, stately mansions, public parks, and pristine wilderness. The images follow the course of the river and are paired with writings and poetry by such distinguished writers as Washington Irving, Charles Dickens, and Robert Caro.

First published in a deluxe edition in 1996, this unique presentation is now accessible to all who admire the beauty and power of this magnificent landscape.

Photographer Jake Rajs has traveled across America and throughout the world, capturing the image and spirit of place. His work is widely published, and his books include the highly acclaimed America and New York: City of Islands.

Nature that has been largely untouched by man becomes art. Discover the breathtaking variety of the vast desert landscape

When you hear the word “desert,” what do you think of? If you imagine more than just endless sand, heat, and emptiness, Jürgen Wettke’s The Namib Desert is the perfect photo book for you. With an excellent eye for unusual structures and colors, Wettke invigorates our imagination and shows us that the desert is a place of unexpected variety. There are only a few landscapes on earth like Namibia where shapes and colors change so rapidly while giving such an immediate feel for how our world originally came to be. Jürgen Wettke has masterfully captured this ambivalence on film and preserved once-in-a-lifetime moments of ephemeral beauty.

For photography buffs, Africa lovers, and everyone who finds joy in the beauty of nature

About the Author:

Jürgen Wettke was born in 1953 in Hagen, Germany. In addition to his successful career as a leader in one of the largest corporate consulting firms, he has been a passionate photographer since he was a boy. He wants his work to touch the viewer emotionally and raise awareness of how fragile our planet’s ecosystems are. His first photo book, The Art of the Wadden Sea, published by teNeues in 2013, was a resounding success: exhibits in Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Kampen (Sylt) and Salzburg marked its debut, with extensive press coverage as well. With the Wadden Sea and the Namib Desert, Jürgen Wettke has found motifs that are constantly changing due to the forces of nature. His photographs are notable not only for their aesthetic qualities, which make them highly desirable collector’s items, but also for the sheer uniqueness of each and every shot.

Ansel Adams
ID: 2124
Видавництво: Bulfinch Press

From 1948 to 1976 Ansel Adams produced seven portfolios, each a limited edition of 10 to 15 signed photographic prints. This book reproduces all 90 of these superb images, including many of Adams's most famous monumental landscape photographs and some remarkable, less familiar portraits and architectural studies. The Portfolios of Ansel Adams was first published in 1977. In 1981 it was decided to take advantage of new printing technology and also to have the book redesigned. In this new printing, the typography from the introductory texts of the original portfolios was faithfully reproduced. In addition, new laser-scanned separations were made of all the images to guarantee the best possible reproduction of the photographs. In his eloquent introduction, John Szarkowski observes that of all Adams publications, his portfolios most clearly represent his personal view of the meaning of his work.
