To the public, French-born New York-based photographer Brigitte Lacombe is largely unknown; film and theatre celebrities, however, made her their favorite portraitist. No wonder, her pictures of Woody Allen, Robert de Niro, Jeanne Moreau, Dustin Hoffman, and others bespeak a trust and familiarity between model and artist that is unique in contemporary photography.
