Once dismissed as the cosy world of teddy bears and fairies, children's book illustration has been transformed by the arrival on the scene of numerous highly original and contemporary graphic artists in recent years. Children now grow up with a more informed and sophisticated visual diet - cartoons, animated movies, comics, TV and computer games - consuming a vast range of stylistic approaches, and illustrated books have moved to match the demands of a more discerning market. Equally, artists who in the past may not have considered the children's picture book as an appropriate vehicle for artistic expression are increasingly drawn to this area. This book showcases some of the most interesting work emerging within the genre from a range of cultural backgrounds. It examines trends in the use of media - both digital and traditional - and discusses the variety of approaches to subject matter.

Print and Production Finishes for Brochures and Catalogs demystifies the production process for graphic designers, enabling them to achieve the best possible work.

At some point, every graphic designer is commissioned to design a brochure or catalogue. While other books offer inspiration for design, this book focuses on the materials and finishing techniques needed to create the desired effect for those jobs, exploring their creation from a production and manufacturing point of view. Roger Fawcett-Tang has selected world-class work across all areas, from high fashion to mail order, and reveals the skills and techniques needed to meet any requirement. There’s also an illustrated glossary of materials (both standard and innovative) and processes.

From producing the latest aspirational publication to making the mundane look desirable, Print and Production Finishes for Brochures and Catalogs is both an indispensable practical guide and a sourcebook for ideas.

Printmaking introduces the student to fundamental printmaking techniques including relief, intaglio, collagraph, lithography, screen print and monoprint and shows how they can be used to achieve cutting-edge results. Since many students are now interested in combining digital media with traditional methods, this book will demonstrate how to use the computer as an image-making tool and translate digital images into tangible works of art.

Each chapter features clear, step-by-step illustrations plus expanded case studies, which help the student understand the technical aspects of each printmaking technique. Also, each chapter features a profile with an international contemporary printmaker, including an interview as well as examples of their work.
Useful appendices featuring troubleshooting charts, which cover the common problems the beginning printmaker might face, as well as sources for further information, complete this useful textbook for beginners.

Bill Fick is a printmaker and Visiting Assistant Professor in the Art Department at Duke University who has exhibited his work internationally. He is also the director of Cockeyed Press, which specializes in the production of satirical linocut prints.

Beth Grabowski is a printmaker and a Professor of Art at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Most recently her work was exhibited in Berlin at an exhibition honouring Käthe Kollowitz. She is the author of 'A Printshop Handbook' (1991).

A user-friendly handbook that helps designers to prepare their files for optimal printing.

"This book is brilliant! Natalie Frank

Видавництво: Damiani

For 'Tales of the Brothers Grimm' thirty-six celebrated and lesserknown of the unsanitized fairy tales collected by the illustrious brothers were carefully chosen by artist Natalie Frank, re-interpret- ed in seventy-five gouache and chalk pastel drawings, and cast in a Surrealist dreamscape. This will be the largest collection of Grimm’s Fairy Tales ever illustrated by a fine artist. Frank’s irreverent palette, sophisticated use of color, and inventive depiction of these dark, far from storybook narratives, capture the original stories with a contemporary and unflinching eye. Each of the tales opens with a handdrawn title page, is framed by a unique border, and small drawings punctuate each story, all in the tradition of classic fairy tale editions.

The foremost Grimm scholar, Jack Zipes, introduces the book and contextualizes these stories and drawings within a history of the Brothers Grimm, its illustrations, and the tradition of the fairy tale. A complex and unique world of the imagination emerges from the pairing of these tales with Frank’s drawings, assembled by the celebrated designer, Marian Bantjes. Additional texts include a conversation between the artist and director Julie Taymor, as well as essays by Feminist art historian Linda Nochlin and curator Claire Gilman. This book marks Frank’s exhibitions of drawings based on the Brothers Grimm at The Drawing Center, New York, and Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas, Austin, in 2015.
