Whichever city you choose – though we recommend all three, of course – you’ll be charmed like a snake on Jemaa El Fna in no time. And to help you sift through the noise, here’s our rundown of the best that Morocco has to offer. Marhaba!

Morocco may be a short hop, skip and a jump across the Med from Europe but it feels like another world. Salesmen flaunting their wares in the souks, robed figures rushing to prayer and ancient palaces decked with dazzling tiles – it’s easy to fall under its spell.

Marrakech, on the cusp of both desert and mountain, offers old-world glamour and an enthralling sense of adventure. Casablanca, lapped by the Atlantic, is a thoroughly modern metropolis with a special affinity for art deco. And at the northernmost tip of the country is the eccentric cliffside city of Tangier, where many a writer and artist have pitched up and sought inspiration over the years.

Authors:

The magazine Monocle covers the world with its network of bureaus in New York, Toronto, Zurich, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Tokyo, and Singapore. It also employs more than 30 dedicated correspondents — in cities from Bangkok to Bogotá, São Paolo to Stockholm — as well as a team of on-the-road reporters based out of its headquarters in London. This team’s deep understanding of cities and all they have to offer has now been compiled in The Monocle Travel Guide Series.

The second monograph on the work of interior designer, architect and landscape designer Bill Bensley

Bill Bensley's exuberant aesthetic is renowned around the world. Vanity Fair has described him as ‘the craziest sane designer in the world’, while Condé Nast Traveller hails him as a ‘master of fabulation’. Bensley's eponymous design studio, based in Bangkok and Bali, is most famous for its work on luxury hotels throughout Southeast Asia. Featuring detailed presentations of 12 of his most exciting, extravagant, outlandish and award-winning projects, this bold, large-format design monograph reflects Bensley’s theatrical style and his maxim, 'Lebih Gila Lebih Baik': 'The Odder the Better'.

About the Author:

Bill Bensley is a gardener, fisherman, architect, interior designer, wide-ranging explorer and lover of all things natural. He was born in Orange County, California in 1959, when orange trees grew there. The day after graduating from Harvard, Bensley moved to Asia, where he went on to establish his own studio, BENSLEY, in Bangkok (1989) and Bali (1990). Since then, with his team of over 150 talented individuals, Bensley has designed more than 200 resorts, hotels and palaces in 30-plus countries.Suzy Annetta is the founding editor-in-chief of Design Anthology magazine, a Hong Kong–based independent publication that celebrates the burgeoning creative and cultural scene in Asia. She is the author of Design in Asia, also published by Thames & Hudson.

Dealing with the most famous peaks on the planet, divided into the various continents, the book presents, among others, the peaks of the Himalayas and the Karakorum, which form “the roof of the world”. And of course, there is Patagonia, an extreme place, a frontier of the imagination full of natural scenarios that seem to be the beginning and the end of everything.

Looking through Mountains, you will discover a new dimension of the African continent, from the sheer cliffs of the Atlas canyons to the snows of Kilimanjaro and Ruwenzori. The great north of Alaska will offer visions of that kingdom of frost over which Denali, the highest mountain on the North American continent, towers over 6,000 metres. Europe and the Alps, with the magic of the Dolomites ― a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009 ― will close the extraordinary journey between the peaks that have always fascinated man. If you don't suffer from vertigo, we will take you really high up.

The reader will be accompanied on this extraordinary adventure by famous fellow travellers who were fascinated by the power of the mountains and whose immortal pages they left behind: quotations from Dante Alighieri, John Muir, Paulo Coelho, Victor Hugo, Lord Byron, Jane Austen, Friedrich Nietzsche, William Shakespeare, Jeanne Moreau, J.R.R Tolkien and Haruki Murakami will be juxtaposed with the most spectacular images of these rock formations that are scattered over the entire surface of the Earth.

A journey through New York’s outposts of good food, design, retail and more, this definitive travel guide will make you feel like a local no matter where you are from

New York used to be such an easy city to crack for the visitor. Not only was there that simple-to-master grid of streets but, really, who wanted to stray from Manhattan? Today, while that stretch from Wall Street to the Upper East Side and beyond still enchants, awes, and bamboozles, you really do need to cross some bridges and head upstate. The city’s focus has fractured and shifted and you ignore the appeal of, say, Brooklyn at your peril. This is especially true of anyone wanting to grasp the city’s fast-evolving food scene, discover some fresh design ateliers, go for a run, or buy some less-exposed art.

Monocle has had a bureau in New York since its launch in 2007 and it has a shop in the city too. This has made the Monocle team passionate about the place and its ambitions. This book is a celebration of all that they know and love about New York and it should be used to take you beyond the obvious spots (although who wouldn’t want to hit the museum biggies). New York can easily live up to its movie-star good looks but let it be a city that surprises you, too — in a good way.

Monocle reports from around the globe in print, on radio, and online. As its editors and correspondents dart from city to city, they get to know the best places to rest their heads, stretch their limbs, and kick back with a contact in a hard-to-find cocktail bar. That information is now available in Monocle’s Travel Guide Series: a line-up of titles that speaks to you in an informed but informal way about everything from architecture to art, late-night bars to early-morning markets.

These are books that go beyond the traditional tourist beats to make sure you get the best out of a city — no matter how short your stay. Designed to be compact and collectable, they are also discerning; Monocle’s team won’t list a hundred places to eat but they will tell you where’s best for everything from some tasty fast food to something truly celebratory. Cities are fun. Let’s explore.

And the moon came nearer. Journey back to July 20, 1969

One of the greatest writers of the 20th century captures the definitive event of modern science. Discover the men, the machinery, and the sheer thrill of the lunar mission with Norman Mailer’s dazzling account of the Apollo 11 adventure, illustrated by hundreds of photographs.

It has been called the single most historic event of the 20th century: On July 20, 1969, after a decade of tests and training, supported by a staff of 400,000 engineers and scientists, and with a budget of billions, the most powerful rocket ever launched brought Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins to the moon.

Nobody captured the men, the mood, and the machinery like Norman Mailer, hired by LIFE magazine to cover the mission in a dazzling reportage he later enhanced into the brilliantly crafted book, Of a Fire on the Moon.

Rediscover this epoch-making event with TASCHEN’s adaptation of Mailer’s account, now in our popular Reader's Edition so you can really curl up and travel not just back in time, but into outer space. The text is accompanied by hundreds of photographs from the NASA vaults, the archives of LIFE, and other leading magazines of the day, documenting the development of the agency and the mission, life inside the command module and on the moon’s surface, as well as the world’s jubilant reaction to the landing.

Captions by leading Apollo 11 experts explain the history and science behind the images, citing the mission log, publications of the day, and postflight astronaut interviews, while an evocative introduction by Colum McCann celebrates Mailer’s incomparable skill at transforming “the science of space...the weight of history...the breadth of mythology” into prose.

The author:

Norman Mailer (1923–2007) was one of the 20th century’s greatest and most influential writers, as well as one of America’s most renowned and controversial literary figures. The best-selling author of a dozen novels and 20 works of nonfiction, he also wrote stage plays, screenplays, television miniseries, hundreds of essays, two books of poetry, and a collection of short stories. A two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, he lived in Brooklyn, New York, and Provincetown, Massachusetts.

The contributing author:

Colum McCann is  the author of eight books, including Let the Great World Spin. He has written for The New York TimesAtlantic MonthlyGQThe Times (London), The Irish Times, and La República.

Along its winding streets and hidden in picturesque views along the Seine, there’s so much more to do and discover, to taste and see, than what you imagine.

The Monocle team is your guide as you explore the nouvelle cuisine in the city’s up and coming restaurants that are revitalizing classic dining. Step off the beaten path and into galleries showcasing works that will inspire future art world trends. Escape the crowds and the tourists in laid-back local bars and classy clubs.
