Owning a yacht is the ultimate status symbol. Universally perceived as the exclusive domain of the rich and the famous, yachting is a decidedly rarified world. Arguably the most well-known private yacht of all time, the 325-foot (99-meter) Christina O, owned by Aristotle Onassis in the 1950s and 60s, was the playground for heads of state such as Winston Churchill and the Kennedys, opera diva Maria Callas, and Hollywood sweethearts such as Ava Gardner and Elizabeth Taylor. Pictured here along with the newly rebuilt Christina O are 20 other mega-yachts, including the newly completed and wildly colorful Guilty, designed by Jeff Koons for the art collector Dakis Joannou; Tom Perkins’ modern sailing yacht Maltese Falcon, the ultramodern sailing yacht Esense, and the refit classic Delphine.

The yachts pictured here are special for many reasons: because they are the fastest, or the most innovative, or the most technologically advanced, or because of their travels to exotic locations around the globe. Outrageous Yachts provides information about the yachts’ builders and designers, and tours each of the magnificent vessels — ranging in size from 138 to 424 feet (42 to 129 meters) — from stem to stern. This volume promises to be irresistible to anyone who has a yacht or dreams of owning one.
Notes:
Annual maintenance usually runs to 15 percent of the cost of a yacht
Today there are approximately 6,000 yachts that exceed 100 feet (31 meters) in the world

Noblesse oblige - this has been true for nearly 80 years now. The cult brand and the “Made in Germany” cars have stood for the perfect balance of power and elegance - and rightly so: about 70 percent of all Porsches ever built are still on the road today, and to this day, all the generations of those striking cars are still eyecatchers in the streets of the world. The small corporation has been defending its pole position with a great sense of quality and passion. They do not build sports cars in order to win races; rather, they participate in races in order to improve their sports cars. Porsche has won the world’s toughest race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, more often than any other manufacturer. This book portrays both Porsche’s unique success stories in the motor sports arena and their boldly innovative design and style. The plentiful highquality illustrations by renowned photographer Rainer W. Schlegelmilch and the informative texts by Hartmut Lehbrink will fascinate any fan of cars and motor sports.

Rainer W. Schlegelmilch studied photography and design in Munich and opened an advertising photography studio in 1964. Even during his studies, he discovered his passion for motor sports and fast cars, a passion that is clearly reflected in his photographs.
Hartmut Lehbrink is the author of a great number of books on cars. Lehbrink, who studied German and English language and literature, developed his interest in cars when the Silver Arrows made their appearance in Spa, Zandvoort and at the Nürburgring.

It is 1842: Pietro, a skilled caulker, leaves Lake Como and settles at Sarnico on Lake Iseo. This was the start of the Riva adventure. First he built fishing boats, then steamboats, followed by his first speedboats and pleasure boats. In the 1950s and 1960s the Riva Boatyard was internationally successful and the motorboats produced by Carlo, the latest embodiment of the family spirit, eclipsed the reputation of imported watercraft. The period that followed saw a marked evolution in the principles of design and construction of pleaseure craft. Materials changed, there were new technologies and uses.

The boats launched at Sarnico were designer products, appreciated for their form, the quality of their engines and the care lavished on the details of construction. In May 2000 Ferretti Spa, in the person of the president Norberto Ferretti, took over the yard with a clear commitment to safeguard and develop Riva's corporate culture.

Aquariva now paid tribute to Aquarama, reinventing its type and "embodying the principle of the evolution of the Riva guidelines in the most advanced technological scenario". There followed founding models such as Rivarama and Rivale, Ego, Ego Super and Sportriva.

In the pages of this book, Decio Giulio Riccardo Carugati relates, in his characteristic manner, a story, the history of a legend, the evolution of a myth. Refined illustrations present the finest images of some of the best-known craft and the people who have helped to create the intriguing and fascinating world of yachting in over a century.

The photography of Rainer Schlegelmilch is renowned in motor racing circles, in a career spanning over half a century, with a number of books featuring his work to his credit. Since the early seventies he has concentrated mainly on Formula One, but prior to that he attended numerous international sports car races, like Le Mans, the Targa Florio and even the Can-Am series in the USA, and this book is a journal of that period from 1962 to 1973. It is presented essentially in a circuit-by-circuit format, rather than a chronological order, which provides one with an insight into the changes that occurred, not only to the cars, but to the circuits, safety features, fashions, etc through the decade.

The foreword is by six times 24 Hours of Le Man's winner Jacky Ickx, titled “The Splendour of Endurance Racing”, whilst the text is in eight languages by respected motoring writer David Tremayne This concentrates on some of the main protagonists of the era, like Enzo Ferrari, Ferdinand Piech, John Wyer, and drivers like Phil Hill, Henri Pescarolo, Jo Siffert, and Pedro Rodriguez. With a photographer of such calibre, the book is definitely picture-led, featuring a wealth of stunning period images predominantly in colour, but also a number of evocative B&W images. They feature not only images of the cars in action, but in static pose in the pits and paddock, with numerous ambience images of the drivers, pit crew, wives, girlfriends and spectators, a truly kaleidoscopic view of the endurance racing scene of the period.
