The third volume in this luxurious series, this work is a celebration of the most precious objects of the Cartier Collection.

The Cartier Collection, housed in Geneva, Switzerland, gathers together over 1,360 pieces that reveal the stylistic and technical developments in the creations of this world-renowned house. Following the previous works in this series devoted to Cartier’s jewelry and timepieces, this third volume explores the precious objects and accessories that complete the collection: from opulent gold and black enamel vanity cases set with platinum and rose-cut diamond fleurons to exquisite and stylish cigarette holders, belt buckles, hat pins, and evening bags. The jeweler has always placed great emphasis on male elegance and an array of men’s accessories is also showcased, including polished gold razors, sophisticated leather travel bags, and diamond-encrusted platinum and onyx cuff links.

From the extravagant yet sublime Tutti Frutti evening bag, made of a weave of seed pearls and dripping with gold, diamond, ruby, emerald, and sapphire details, to exotic and intricate Chinese powder compacts, these creations are works of fine art. This handsome volume recounts the history of the House of Cartier and its sublimation of often everyday items, which became veritable precious objects. The text is illustrated with more than 550 pieces taken from the collection ― beautifully reproduced in full size and in color ― which can usually only be admired in retrospective exhibitions held in internationally-renowned museums. Other archival material includes photographs of high society clients, detailed sketches and studies for various pieces, and vintage advertising posters.

Presented in a luxurious silk slipcase with ribbon closure, this tome is a tribute to some of the most exquisite objects in the Cartier Collection.

About the Authors:

François Chaille is an art historian and fashion expert. He has written several titles, including The Cartier Collection: Jewelry, The Cartier Collection: Timepieces, Cartier: Creative Writing, Cartier: Innovation through the 20th Century, and Girard-Perregaux. Since then the collection has been augmented with pieces that reflect key moments in English history, such as the regalia created for the only joint monarchs, William III and Mary II, in 1689, and the crown made for King George V’s inauguration as Emperor of India in 1911.

Dr. Alexey Konstantinovich Levykin
ID: 5584
Видавництво: Thames & Hudson

This book features more than sixty exceptional objects that large embassies, diplomatic missions and trade delegations from Ottoman Turkey and Safavid Iran offered to the tsars of Russia.

Ranging in date from the early sixteenth to the late seventeenth century, these lavish gifts and tributes include rarely seen arms and armour and jeweled ceremonial vessels and regalia intended for the Russian court or the Orthodox church. Some of the finest pieces are equestrian in nature: stirrups with pearls, golden bridles with turquoises and rubies, and saddles covered with velvet and silk.

This book explores the reasons why these extraordinary gifts were presented, their artistic and cultural impact, and how they inspired artists to develop a highly original visual identity that became a potent symbol for the Russian state and the Orthodox church.

Alba Cappellieri,

The French High Jewelry Maison through more than 500 creations and archival documents, from 1906 to nowadays

This book presents the legendary jewellery and precious objects of Van Cleef & Arpels, and how they relate to time, nature and love. Time is a fundamental element for both creativity and craftsmanship. Time gives objects their shape; defines their style; determines their function, social utility, and the choice of materials and techniques; indicates origin; hones taste; and reveals context. Time is interpreted through eight values inspired by Italo Calvino’s Lezioni Americane, or Six Memos for the Next Millennium, to honor the iconic pieces created by Van Cleef & Arpels over the years, from Art Deco masterpieces to the illustrious Zip necklace, gravity-defying Mystery Set, or celebrated Minaudières ― some of the most important innovations in the history of 20th-century jewellery-making.

Nature plays an equally important role for Van Cleef & Arpels as an ever-present source of inspiration and tribute, embodied in unique gems and timeless masterpieces drawing on flora and fauna. Van Cleef & Arpels is founded on love, the most powerful energy in the world. Each object is handcrafted with love, and Van Cleef & Arpels jewellery has sealed some of the century’s most legendary love stories.

In a brilliant historical and critical essay, illuminated by a stunning iconographic selection of jewellery, precious objects and archive materials, this work describes the Maison’s eternal values of time, nature and love.

Vincent Meylan

Видавництво: ACC Art Books

From Empress Farah and the secrets of the treasure of Iran, to Queen Marie Amélie’s missing emeralds, via Fantômas and the blood-red rubies of the kings of Burma, entering the world of Van Cleef & Arpels is like embarking upon a fascinating treasure hunt. In this book, Vincent Meylan explores a century in the history of one of the most prestigious Parisian jewellery dynasties. He opens doors and unlocks caskets to reveal the mysterious, and sometimes fantastic, stories of its clients and the fabulous and exceptional stones that they entrusted to the “golden hands” of Van Cleef & Arpels. The Maharani of Baroda, the Duchess of Windsor, Princess Lilian of Belgium, Elizabeth Taylor, Marlene Dietrich, Princess Grace of Monaco, Maria Callas, Barbara Hutton and the Countess of Camargo: they are all the heroines of this incredible epic full of rubies, diamonds, emeralds, and sapphires.

Van Cleef & Arpels: Treasures and Legends is full of extravagant fairytales and fascinating behind-the-scenes revelations. It also tells the sometimes troubled story of a dynasty of jewellers, of gifted men and women who have, for over a century, helped to shape that inimitably Parisian art de vivre that is the envy of the world.

About the Author:

Vincent Meylan is responsible for the history and royalty pages in Point de Vue. He is also a specialist in precious stones and in 'haute joaillerie'. He is the author of several biographies, Queens' Jewels and Boucheron: The Secret Archives.

François Chaille, Hélène Kelmachter
ID: 17169
Видавництво: Flammarion

An exquisite volume documenting Cartier's most recent bespoke high jewelry collection, destined for eminent clients and collectors.

Devoted to the new High Jewelry and precious objects collection created by Cartier, this book celebrates nature's vitality, sensuality, and aesthetic force. Documents from the House's archives show that flora and fauna have been a major source of inspiration at Cartier since the very beginning.

The representations are numerous, and the interpretations complement each other: figurative, as realistic as possible; stylized, between an outline or suggestion; and all the way to abstraction, with the disconcerting visual play.

The jeweler's imagination and virtuosity transform precious materials and stones into splendid ensembles. For this groundbreaking new collection, the artists who create the designs go even farther than the known natural universe to visit unexplored territories: in addition to the Houses's emblematic species, such as panthers and crocodiles, we discover original creations, inspired, for example, by succulents and peacocks, or even imaginary creatures like reinvented chimeras.

In this richly illustrated volume, the new Cartier High Jewelry collection is accompanied by text that highlights the privileged relationship that exists between contemporary art and nature. Artists, fascinated by the power and the mystery of the environment that surrounds us, move beyond traditional art arenas to confront the immensity of landscapes or to work directly with materials from nature. The natural world is a marvel that never ceases to inspire and seduce.

About the Authors:

François Chaille is a writer. Passionate about art history, fashion, jewelry and watchmaking, he has published fifteen works with Flammarion, including Magnitude, Coloratura,The Cartier Collection: Timepieces, Audemars Piguet: Master Watchmaker Since 1875, and Girard Perregaux.

This is the ultimate illustrated guide to the most exquisite vanity cases from the nineteenth century onward; an unmissable opportunity for lovers of jewelry and fashion.

This elegant and richly illustrated volume, featuring a slipcase and gilded page edges, showcases a rare private collection of vanity cases and includes an exquisite array of luxury accessories from the nineteenth century to the twentieth century. These vanity cases, carefully designed and mostly handmade, became covetable accessories with the advent of beauty products.

The vanity case, the ultimate jeweled fashion accessory, was designed and made mostly in Paris by skilled designers and craftsmen who understood that the fashionable modern woman needed a practical solution for carrying lipstick, powder compact, cigarettes, lighter, theater tickets, keys, and other small paraphernalia. Tiny, made of precious metals, including platinum and gold, with inlays of lacquer, gemstones, mother-of-pearl, jade, or enamel, these reticules took hundreds of hours of patient craftsmanship to complete.

460 illustrations

This showcase of new jewellery offers a global view of exciting work from nearly 200 cutting-edge jewellery designers. It highlights the diverse forms that contemporary jewellery takes, from simple wedding or commitment rings, to elaborate body jewellery that blurs the boundaries between art and adornment, to catwalk jewellery specially commissioned for couture collections. Adorn includes pieces made using the latest industrial technologies and processes, as well as more traditional methods and materials. Because most jewellers’ work crosses themes, categories and styles, and is produced using a variety of techniques, the chapters are arranged by type of jewellery and each designer might feature in several chapters. In this way, from headpiece to toe ring, the book takes the reader on a visual journey around the body and provides a rich source of inspiration for anyone looking to design, commission or buy their own jewellery.

Amanda Mansell graduated from the Royal College of Art, London with an MA in Goldsmithing, Silversmithing, Metalwork and Jewellery. She has been a designer–maker for 10 years, working from her workshop in Hatton Garden, London’s famous jewellery quarter. She manages the jewellery archives at the Royal College of Art and is the owner and director of a contemporary jewellery gallery in London.
