This is the first book devoted to Tiffany lamps in more than 20 years. Experts in the field have made a selection of exceptional lamps - many of which have rarely been seen or published - and each one has been newly photographed with the latest photographic techniques to reveal in extraordinary detail the artistic quality and high craftsmanship of these masterpieces of decorative art.

Martin Eidelberg and Alice Cooney Frelinghuysen have contributed essays on the history of the lamps, enlarging our understanding of Louis Comfort Tiffany's achievement. Within this larger dictionary are two smaller ones: the ideological dictionary (see "ideological dictionary"), located roughly at the center of the book, offers analogical groups of words related to specific idea; the dictionary of aphorisms (see "synthetical") synthesizes some of the key definitions from the main dictionary in the form of mottos.

Finally, please note that this is an illustrated dictionary, with images used to facilitate quick explanations of related terms.

The Modern Californian Beach House catalogues the eclectic and always original modernist beach house architecture of Patrick Killen, who for more than thirty years has been Managing Principal of the renowned Studio 9one2 architectural firm.

Killen, along with a handful of other architects, was responsible for introducing serious modern design to the Los Angeles beach communities in the mid-80s, which at the time was a ‘crazy quilt of fantasy structures all built on postage-stamp sized lots wedged together in a dense pattern laid out generations earlier’.
