As a photographer, the challenge is in capturing the very moment that a fluid substance interacts with the body in a way that will take the viewer on a sensual adventure, inviting not only to their visual sense but also invoking sensations of touch, taste, and imagination. When successful, the result is a unique moment frozen in time, never to be repeated. The result is photographic imagery that is sensual, provocative and erotic.
Living close to Washington, D.C., Jim spent many years photographing landscapes, monuments, masonry and still lifes, and his stunning images have adorned the offices of doctors, lawyers and dentists. It wasn't until his daughter requested Jim capture a few maternity images for her that he turned his sights to portrait photography. With this new found passion, Jim completely immersed himself in the study of lighting, posing, and the business of photography, and soon found himself perfecting what was quickly becoming his specialized genre, the fine art nude.
Always striving to aim higher, to always improve, and, yes, to push the envelope even further. When asked to pick his best image, Jim says "the best is yet to come".

Emmanuel Fouquet wanted to learn a profession in which being surrounded by beautiful women is part and parcel of the job. He left the Savoy Alps in 1991 and travelled to Paris, coming under the wing of Christian Chauveau. This famous man trained Emmanuel in the skills of the make-up artist. Emmanuel’s first assignments were tough, low-paid jobs, which came his way via various model agencies. Until, that is, he took the plunge and decided to go to America. Prompted by an invitation from renowned Penthouse photographer Hank Londoner, he soon got to know others in his profession. He also acted as an agent for Londoner, for Suze Randall and Vivian Thomas as well. He used the sessions to watch and learn how the artists worked. Helped by Londoner, Fouquet also got to know photographer Michael Moore, who gave his photographs his full blessing and approval. Thus began a meteoric career, and today his photos grace the covers of Penthouse, Hustler, Private and other magazines, including many erotic calendars currently circulating Europe. Fouquet still mostly makes up his models himself. Enjoy the magic of his pictures!

While the female nude has long played a concpicuous role in western iconography, the male nude has not always enjoyed such adoration. This collection provides an overdue review of material that at one time could only be bought under the counter, beginning with the anonymous erotica of the 19th century. It features the pioneer homoerotic nude photographs of Baron Wilhelm von Gloeden, posing nude youths in classical postures at Taormina in Sicily. It includes illustrations from groundbreaking magazines such as Physique Pictorial, the leading organ of the mid-50s gay scene, and it covers the entire range from classic masters of male nude photography, such as Herbert List, George Platt Lynes or Robert Mapplethorpe, to the pin-up beefcake of the sex magazines.

Man Ray (1890-1976) is indisputably one of the most original artists of the 20th century. His revolutionary nude studies, fashion work, and portraits opened a new chapter in the history of photography. Born under the name of Emmanuel Radnitzky in Philadelphia, he began his artistic career in New York. In 1921 he moved to Paris, where he was enthusiastically welcomed into Dadaist and Surrealist circles. Man Ray experimented tirelessly with new photographic techniques, multiple exposure, rayography, and solarization being some of his most famous. Erotic, playful, and sometimes sinister, his compositions show unusual bodies and objects: strange, striking images that transform our perceptions of reality. This collection of famous, lesser known, and unknown works fully illustrates Man Ray’s singular visionary power.

Freikörperkultur. An evocative new series from Mario Testino

Mario Testino’s Undressed removes various layers. Coinciding with an exhibition conceived exclusively for the Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin, this intimate series explores the notion of undressing in photography as much as it lays Testino’s archive bare, probing beyond the photographer’s established public image to reveal a deeper understanding of his practice and oeuvre.

The 50 featured photographs center on the naked body, alternately exploring and pushing the traditions and boundaries between sex, gender identity, and fashion. Honoring the influence of Helmut Newton, the images become abstracted body landscapes, the protagonists appearing as mere form, a torso, even a statue.

A special highlight are previously unseen photographs shot in the Testino studio, in which an exuberant atmosphere intermingles with the implicit frisson of nudity and where playfully amorous dynamics never slip into the obscene or pornographic.

Testino’s lineup ranges from supermodel protagonists, such as Kate Moss and Amber Valletta, to anonymous, androgynous men; from individual portraits to group photos. We see many intimate moments, some caught candidly, some consciously orchestrated, such as a young man shaving a woman’s upper pubic hair in a luxurious bathroom. Following in the tradition of SIR, many of the images may be seen to redefine masculine paradigms in the same way that Newton created his own brand of female beauty.

As emotions, aesthetics, and bodies meet, Testino grants new insight into his world-famous work. The images are accompanied by an introduction from curator Matthias Harder, a candid conversation piece with Carine Roitfeld, as well as an essay from psychiatrist and psychologist Manfred Spitzer who offers a neuroscientific perspective on our visual perception of bodies and beauty.
